Predator 2025 - Football Cage

Client:

Adidas

Project Type: Web Development, Project Management

After the success and the learning from the previous years activation, the client trust us to developed and work on a new football cage project for the 2025 boot release. This time I decide to push an entire new angle for the event, and laser focus on the player experience and customer journey. I therefore chose to reduce the focus on automatic score tracking and instead focus the project on gameplay features, leader boards and visual quality.

I design the solution to lean on our teams in house skill set in Web development, but hook into store infrastructure and our existing digital display knowledge. The Set up you relay on Brand ambassador using an controller Ipad to interface with the shooting screen, a 6 by 8 meter LED wall that was part of the store build. The player would shoot a ball at one of three games the BA could pick from and the Ipad would progress, add score and change the states of the games.

Build

As the principle technologist on the job, I designed the core gameplay loops and infrastructure that would hold up to client expectations and day to day store live. The Hardware is partially interesting, and was based around a digital signage solution we used in smaller builds, called Screen Cloud. Using a HDMI switcher we hooked up solution that would allow the store staff to put the cage into a active and standby mode. Then using a website with pusher API we could operate/ load different games and screen based on how the controller website (running on the Ipad) was set up. There three games that could be played included:

- Grow: Where the player scores points by hitting target, but each miss would result in the target growing, but the points decreasing for each shot they make.
- Knock Down: Where the player hits a block, where the smaller blocks are worth more points. And once the screen is cleared of blocks, they reset in new random positons
- Tower Reveal: similar to blocks, but theres a set number of smaller block and shooting reveals product imagery behind the screen.

Outcomes

The project was a massive success and resulted in nearly 6000players trying on the boot and setting scores, as well as a hosted three events where football influencers and streamers came to set the high score and compete with each other on match day.
