Ian - The Robot

One of my favourite types of jobs are anything todo with Robotics and Kinect sculpture, Originally purchased for Adidas’ predator 2024 campaign, IAN , our Dobot Magic E6 is a 6 Axis robotic arm that was simply there to sell promote shoes in Lab styled area of the store. After getting the robot, I need to design a custom mounting solution that could mount a football boot and hold it in places. After developing this on my 3d printers, I then simply used some key frame animation to move the shoe and present it in interesting places on the install night, as it need to align with both an interior and exterior window display.
During the 2024, F50 showcase in the same store, the IAN the robot made a second appearance in which the creative wanted to replicate an Xray/ Scanning scene. I therefore designed a custom end to the arm that could mimic and scanner, by taking apart a 3.3v Laser spirit level and custom 3d printing a housing with twinned seven segment display on each back face. Once assembled the robotic arm was animated around the shoe holder, where the laser line would look as tho it was scanning the shoe.
Developing a Mount
Due to limited budgets and time frames, it was hard to find many cheap gripper or arms that could interface with some of the plans our internal creative could come up with. So I decided to develop my own custom interface using fusion 360 and my ender pro 3d printers. The mount was simple design using basic m.3 bolts to mount to robot as well as a brass inserts embed around the hole that could pressure fit any other feature I wanted to add, to date the robot has interface mount for range of shoes sizes and types, camera and customer proper laser scanners.
